Heartworm Prevention
Heartworm prevention is the only way to stop heartworm infecting your beloved dog. In recent times it has become more apparent that pet owners are even more concerned about dangerous parasites such as heartworms. The best time to start giving heartworm treatment is around the six week stage if you have purchased a new puppy. The Heartworm society has recommended that you should be giving your dogs a monthly dosage of a heartworm preventative active ingredient such as Ivermectin. You may want to talk with your vet about when to start the treatment and how often.
Heartworm pills for dogs are the best and cheapest solution to prevent heartworm in your dogs and puppies. When you give a heartworm preventative to your puppy it will begin to work and kill any signs of heartworm larvae in the circulatory system and prevent the heartworm from maturing. If the puppy is less than six weeks old it is not necessary to really treat them for heartworm as the larvae would still only be microscopic, but always ensure you start a treatment as recommended by the packaging or your vet.
There are many brands of heartworm pills for dogs so consult your veterinarian on which one is best for your situation. The very best in most cases is Interceptor or Heargard, these are both widely used in the United States.
